Update from Annabel Wigley- 29th November 2011

This weekend we had the National ODE Champs at Richfields.

I took NRM Enzo in the three star and NRM Frog Rock in the two star.

I was thrilled with both the horses dressage tests. Both of them did some of the best work they had done, and it was extremely windy so they both behaved amazingly considering the conditions! NRM Enzo was lying in equal second place after the dressage, and NRM Frog Rock was about 7th (I was slightly disappointed with NRM Frog Rock's mark as I thought he did his best test this season).

This year at Richfields they had changed the layout, which was great as everything was all in the same area and it saved a lot of walking!!

The showjumping was on Saturday afternoon, and the gale force winds really added to the challange, especially as it was situated on the top of a hill!

NRM Frog Rock handled the conditions extremely well and did a great clear round, but Enzo was a little distracted by the wind so took a couple of rails (I have forgiven him for that as the weather was horrendous). We all went to bed that night exhausted and thoroughly windswept.

The next day, cross country day, we awoke to a beautiful calm day, wishing it had been the same the day before... The xc course had been changed a bit from previous years and seemed to cause quite a lot of trouble. NRM Frog Rock went first out of my two, and absolutely flew around. I was so happy with him, he was a little star!

He finished overall 3rd in the Two Star Championship class, which was very exciting!

Unfortunately NRM Enzo had a couple of silly glance offs in the cross country. He is still quite inexperienced at this level, so for where he is at he is doing very well, especially as the three star track caused so much trouble there were only three clear rounds! It was great to have such a good result on NRM Frog Rock, and I know NRM Enzo has what it takes to be a real star for the future. We are now staying in Taupo until Puhinui. I can't wait for NRM Enzo to show what he can really do, and NRM Frog Rock is on great form, so bring on Puhinui!
