Rumetrace

Brief Description:
Rumetrace magnesium capsules supplement every cow treated with approximately 1-3 grams of readily available Mg per day for 9-12 weeks. In a high producing lactating dairy cow with high demands of magnesium the higher release rate of magnesium may be expected, with each capsule fully expired in 6-9 weeks. Rumetrace is licensed under the Animal Remedies Act #5530 as an aid to prevention of grass staggers (hypomagnesia).  This is because it only releases a proportion of a cow's supplementary Mg requirements.

Rumetrace capsules consist of two semi-cylindrical magnesium castings hinged by a rubber moulding. The rubber hinge enables the castings to be folded together and inserted into a special easy-to-use applicator, which is inserted down the cow’s throat. When the capsule is released, it moves into the rumen where the rubber hinge opens, preventing regurgitation. Over a period of months the magnesium is released to help meet the animal’s needs. When the magnesium is completely exhausted, the rubber hinge folds up, allowing the cow to regurgitate it in the normal manner.

Inside the rumen, the rate of magnesium released from the Rumetrace capsules adjusts with the cow’s needs. When the dietary intake of magnesium decreases, the Rumetrace capsule releases more magnesium for the cow to absorb. Likewise, magnesium released is reduced when the cow needs less.

Each capsule contains:
• 210g Magnesium alloy (equivalent to 185 grams of Magnesium)
• 26g Natural Rubber

Product Form:

LargeCapsule (bolus)

Product Size:
25 capsules per box

Feed Recommendation:
Insert one capsule per cow 10-14 days prior to calving, or the grass staggers risk period, using the specially designed Rumetrace applicator

Important Note:
The capsule Mg release rates vary according to feed (Mg) intake and cow’s Mg demand. Capsule release rates are influenced by animal feed intake and individual cow magnesium metablism.  For lactating cattle with heavier demands for magnesium (such as high producing dairy cattle) the use of other supplementary forms of magnesium, or mineral blocks with magnesium and sodium or even coarse salt in conjunction with the capsule may be valuable. Consult with NRM or your local veterinarian for advice in using Rumetrace, as under certain conditions additional Mg may be required.
